Truth and Lies
I am hugely excited to introduce DI Amy Winter to you!
I knew when I began plotting my tenth book that I would have to pull something big out of the bag. As my mind turned over potential ideas, I challenged myself to come up with my best book yet. I’m never short of ideas, but this had to be something which would push me to the precipice of my creative abilities, then shove me off the cliff. Seriously. This is how my brain works.
Having written two series already, it was a challenge to come up with a new character different to everyone else. In my DC Jennifer Knight series, she was an OCD obsessive with psychic abilities which she turned to her advantage when investigating crime. In my DS Ruby Preston series, I wrote of a strong woman with a good heart who sometimes lived on the wrong side of the law.
Who Is Amy Winter?
So where to start when it came to creating a new character? Then the answer came. Her family tree. Tracing bloodlines has never been easier. I’ve often thought about doing it myself. But what if some stones are best left unturned? And what could be the worst possible news that someone like Amy could get?
DI Amy Winter is conscientious, competitive and obsessed with making lists. Her father, Superintendent Robert Winter has recently passed away. All she ever wanted was to follow in his footsteps and make him proud. But the truth is dark and ugly, and about to rear its head. I hope you like what I’ve come up with. Here’s the blurb:
DI Amy Winter is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her highly respected police officer father. But when a letter arrives from the prison cell of Lillian Grimes, one half of notorious husband-and-wife serial-killer team, it contains a revelation that will tear her life apart.
Responsible for a string of heinous killings decades ago, Lillian is pure evil. A psychopathic murderer. And Amy’s biological mother. Now, she is ready to reveal the location of three of her victims – but only if Amy plays along with her twisted game.
While her fellow detectives frantically search for a young girl taken from her mother’s doorstep, Amy must confront her own dark past. Haunted by blurred memories of a sister who sacrificed herself to save her, Amy faces a race against time to uncover the missing bodies.
But what if, from behind bars, Grimes has been pulling the strings even tighter than Amy thought? And can she overcome her demons to prevent another murder?
What do you think? As my readers know, I enjoy delving into the darkest of minds. Let me tell you, there were times when writing Lillian Grimes brought goosebumps to my skin. But this is more than a serial killer thriller, it’s a woman trying to cope with discovering the truth. Expect strong characters, a fast-paced hunt to the finish, but some lighter moments too. Having been fortunate enough to have worked with some fantastic real-life detectives, I’ve tried to convey the very important relationship that only working in the police can bring. I do hope you enjoy my next offering, which is available for pre-order now.
